Karen Knowler has been a prominent figure on the international healthy eating, raw food and self-help scene since 1998.

A regular in the UK media, she has appeared on TV programmes including LK Today, and has featured in numerous magazines, including Tatler, Glamour and Woman & Home.

Through coaching thousands of people around the globe for over a decade in the arenas of food, diet and personal development, Karen’s discovery of the different eater types has fast become one of the most potent tools for self-knowledge and conscious personal change that she has utilised in her work to date.

Karen’s extensive knowledge and experience of all issues relating to raw food eating, working with the energy of food, and eating according to the truth of who you are and who you want to be, make her one of the most innovative, original and sought-after holistic eating experts in the world today.


My story

As a teenager and young adult, I was constantly prodding and poking my “wodgy bits”.  It sounds like an affectionate term, but really there was very little love there. Indeed, my self-loathing came to a very big and ugly head one day when I was 18 years old, and had just returned from my first visit to the USA on a school-exchange trip. While there I had gorged on lasagne, fries and chocolate chip cookies. Unsurprisingly, I gained 8 lb in three weeks. It was obvious that something was going to have to change.

The knock-on effects of my eating frenzy hit me fully a couple of days after my return. As I looked in the mirror at my naked, overweight self, through the tears of frustration, embarrassment and remorse, I vowed that I would find a way of eating that “ticked all of the boxes” – i.e. a way of eating that would enable me to look slim and feel healthy and to eat foods that were actually good for me – and like them!

Trust me, this was a big ask from a young woman who despised vegetables, had grown up on junk food and had spent her early teens working in a butchers shop. But as the saying goes, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way” and as fate would have it, I didn’t just go on to find a way, but in fact to discover a whole new world of knowledge about food and eating, and furthermore, how what we put into our body goes on to shape everything.

My journey proper began in 1992 with looking at exactly what I ate. I cleaned up my diet, went vegetarian and started eating much more naturally. Within less than 18 months I was eating vegan and mostly raw foods. From this I learned that what you feed yourself can dramatically change not only our physical body (yes I lost all that weight!), but also the way we think, feel and even the level of spiritual connection we can attain. It was a revelation to say the least.

In 1999, I went on to teach and coach about raw food professionally. I spoke with literally thousands of people over almost two decades, and was blown away by the differences in opinions, experiences and mind-sets around food and eating. I noticed that while everyone would have great experiences when they cleaned up their diet, not everyone liked to approach this in the same way, and not everyone wanted to clean up their diet for the same reasons.

This all became very fascinating to me.

This almost two-decade journey into the hearts and minds of thousands really threw down a gauntlet to me. I wanted to understand what really drives people to eat the way they eat, and why they choose to eat the way they do – even if it’s not healthy. My discoveries led to the awareness that there are 10 types of eater and 10 main reasons why people choose to eat the way they eat. This was enthralling enough, but when I pieced together this new information with the information I had learned about radically cleaning up our diet, this was when the magic really revealed itself.

In short, I learned that who you are and what you eat create not only your health, but your entire life experience.  I wrote “Eat Right for Your Personality Type” to share my fascinating findings with the world and to show them exactly how to create the experience they really want to have in every way and on every level by working with who they are rather than working against it.
